Two Food Chains of The OCEAN (ooweeooooo!)

Food Chain #1: Arctic

This one starts out witht he sun. The sun gives energy and nutrients to tiny, microscopic organisms called phytoplankton. These phytoplankton are then eaten by Krill, the primary consumers. Krill are eaten by a multitude of Secondary Consumers: Birds, Bigger Fish, Seals, Carnivorous Zooplankton, Whales, Squid, and even Humans! The fish and squid are then eaten by tertiary consumers, like elephant seals, who sneak up on their prey and attack. Eventually, these organisms are eaten by Smaller Toothed whales, who are quaternary consumers.

Food Chain #2: Atlantic and Pacific

This one also starts out with the sun. The sun feeds the phytoplankton, who get nutrients using photosynthesis. The Phytoplankton are eaten by Zooplankton, the Primary consumers. The Zooplankton are eaten by secondary consumers, such as a small species of fish called an anchovy. That’s the type of fish that some people put on their pizza. These are, in turn, eaten by small fish, such as small-medium squids, which catch them with their tentacles and then feed the Anchovy into their beak, located at the base of their tentacles. These squids are tertiary consumers. Then, finally, these squids are eaten by various types of marine mammals, such as dolphins, and are the quaternary consumer.
